Shirley Roberts is an Executive Administrator at the Georgia Public Defender Council and has worked for the executive branch agency since 2016. She loves working with public defenders as she gets to learn first-hand how to selflessly serve the underprivileged. She provides strategic support for the administrative, communications, operations, and human resource functions of the organization. She has been involved in lobbying efforts with the External Affairs Director and Executive Director at the state capitol. Shirley was also a direct report to the Deputy Director and Interim Executive Director.
Prior to her time with GPDC, she has always been an active participant in her church and community. Since 2012, she has been the sole administrator of Atlanta Mommies- an online forum answering a community need for advice, support, and relationships to over 2,600 moms in counties across the state of Georgia. Before that, Shirley was part of a small team of dedicated people, who for over four years, moved to Florida to plant a fruitful church for young adults. There she had the privilege of serving as a youth leader, small group leader, and community outreach coordinator.
Shirley holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology with a Criminology Concentration from Kennesaw State University, a Masters of Business Administration from Western Governors University, and she will be attending law school at UGA in the fall- where she looks forward to using her future law degree to further serve the underprivileged.
Shirley says her most proud accomplishment is being a mother to her five incredible children, ages 6-21. She is honored to have been asked to serve on the Board of The Canopy, and is excited to support its important mission of providing resources to those in need.
